About the Czech Language

Czech is a West Slavic language spoken by over 10 million people. It is the official language of the Czech Republic and is closely related to Slovak and Polish. Czech is a fusional language with a rich system of morphology and relatively flexible word order. Its vocabulary has been extensively influenced by Latin and German.

Czech grammar is relatively simple, with relatively few irregular verbs and a well-developed system of declension. There are three genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter), four cases (nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative), and two numbers (singular and plural). Word order is generally flexible, although there are some rules governing the use of word orders in specific situations.

There are three main groups of dialects in Czech: Bohemian, Moravian, and Silesian. The most common Czech dialect is Bohemian, which is also the basis for Standard Czech. Moravian dialects are spoken in Moravia, while Silesian dialects are spoken in Silesia (an area now divided between Poland and the Czech Republic).

The Czech Community in Australia

Czech Australians are Australian citizens of Czech ancestry. Most Czech (and ethnic Moravian) immigrants to Australia came after World War II and 1968–1969. Most recently the biggest influx is of students coming to Australia to study English and to find work.

There is a significant Czech community in Australia, with an estimated 7,702 people of Czech descent living in the country according to the 2016 census. This community has made a significant impact on Australian society and culture, particularly in the areas of arts, entertainment, and sport.

The Czech Republic has a strong relationship with Australia, and there are cultural and business exchanges between the two countries. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of Czech students coming to study in Australia.
