To drive in Victoria on an overseas licence, you need to translate your license if it’s not in English. If you’re from a country where Vicroads can’t verify your driving history, you’ll need to provide a translation of your foreign driving history. This translation will need to be NAATI certified. You may also need to sit a VicRoads drive test.

If you have an interstate or New Zealand driver’s licence, you can use it to drive in Victoria for as long as it remains current. You don’t need to get a Victorian licence.

 

However, if you want to drive a commercial vehicle (for example, a taxi or truck), you will need to apply for a Victorian driver’s licence. This is because different states and territories have different rules and regulations for these types of vehicles.
